When I use WindowsXP Remote Assistance to invite someone to help me, when I
open the Window where you select to send the Invitation by MESSENGER or
OUTLOOK, it shows "Windows Messenger is not Installed". I have both Outlook
and Windows Live Messenger installed and have been using Windows Live
messenger with no problems.

Why is Windows Remote Assistance showing Messenger is NOT Installed?

Suggestive steps to correct this......?

For remote assistance, you also need the Windows Messenger that came with XP.
This is the latest, I think, or just search at Microsoft download.

Downloaded and insta;;ed Messenger 5.1 using your link. Re-Booted PC. Opened
Remote Assistance, it still showed "Windows MESSENGER is not Installed".
Opened Windows Messenger 5.1.......then re-opened Remote Assistance....and it
still showed "Windows Messenger is Not installed". So I now have Windows
Messenger 5.1 and Windows Live Messenger.

Its OK to have Windows Messenger and Windows Live Messenger running on the
same PC?

But now that Windows Messenger 5.1 is installed on my PC, and will run, why
am I still seeing 'Windows Messenger is Not Installed"

Thanks

did you remove or disable WM previously?

WM and WLM are 2 different animals. Without WM, some features are disabled.
Both can be installed to the same system.

Greetings,

Yes, they're designed to both be installed

Now that you have it installed, you'll need to start it. To do so, open up a conversation
window to someone in Windows Live Messenger, click the Activities button and then choose
Remote Assistance there.

Don't rely on the dialog in the Remote Assistance wizard which I believe is what you're
trying to go through, it's Messenger integration is easily broken.
