XP Service Pack 2 and conflicts with Earthlink toolbar

Hello,
I'm running a 2 1/2 year old hp Pavilion 523 loaded with XP Professional.
My ISP is Earthlink Cable via Time Warner. As soon as I installed XP
Service Pack 2 I began to have problems with my Earthlink desktop tool/task
bar. It is erratic and causes freeze ups to whatever I am doing. It's
especially annoying when typing. I have to either minimize or completely
close the Earthlink tool/taskbar. I've been writing and calling Earthlink
about it and they tell me their engineers are aware of it and have been
working on it (now for months!). I have also written more than twice to
Microsoft but they've not even had the courtesy to respond. Are there other
Earthlink customers who have the same problem since installing XP Service
Pack 2?
Are there folks who don't have Earthlink who have experienced this problem
since installing the XP Service Pack 2? I'd appreciate any response and if
anyone has been able to solve the problem. I am getting sick of waiting for
a supposed patch to fix it. At present Earthlink and Microsoft are on my
"manure list"! Thanks.

"MT Pavilion523",

I am sorry that you are running into this problem. Here at Microsoft, we do
test a great deal of variations on our installations, but occasionally
things like this happen. I hesitate to ask this, as I'm sure the Earthlink
technicians already tried this, but:

Have you tried uninstalling the Earthlink Desktop Tool/task bar and
reinstalled it on your Service Pack 2 updated Windows operating system?

The best bet is to contact Earthlink in this case, as they understand their
proprietary software best and can better define what problem you may be
encountering.

Sincerely,

Pat Walters [MSFT]

"MT Pavilion523",

I apologize that you have hit this issue, and I want to help. I realize
that Earthlink probably already tried this, but, have you tried uninstalling
the Earthlink tool/task bar, and then tried reinstalling it on a functional
Windows XP with Service Pack 2?

Please try that and let us know how this goes.

Sincerely,

Pat Walters [MSFT]
