system: windows xp home edition on celeron 1.5ghz with
256mb ram.
problem: installed sp2, no problems. went through a couple
of restarts. limited tests showed no problems including
connecting to isp over dsl line. however, after i've gone
through the turn off/power down process and then power
back up (no hibernate or standby) i'm no longer able to
make the internet connection, an error 769, (i believe
this is correct) having something to do with not being
able access the usual port, message pops up.
sp2 is installed over the internet but ie and dsl
connection terminated before installation is selected to
begin. have done this twice with same results. a restore
to state just prior to sp2 installation results in the dsl
connection behaving correctly. which is how i'm able to
post this message.
