XP Service Pack 2 failed installation

Everytime I attempt to install XP Service Pack 2,it stalls at 1/3rd of the
progess bar ,while inspectng configuration and updating files.I have a Dell
Dimension 4300S computor purcased in NOv.2001.

Some log files you can check for any clues or error messages:

%windir%\Svcpack.log
%windir%\setupapi.log

(%windir% is typically C:\Windows)


You might need to enable verbose logging to find the reason in one
of those log file, see here for how to enable it:

are you installing directly off windowsupdate?

you may want to consider runninig it off a Win XP SP2 CD to avoid factors
such as network, server load, etc. from interfering with the download / setup
process.
