I have reinstall all of my programs 98 to xp home with patches and down
loaded all windows updates but can not download service pack 2. I go into the
up dater and hit install and nothing happens . I am also running norton
antivirus Ghost and go back on the system . Service pack 1 is installed.

Are you currently running WinXP Gold (no Service Packs) or WinXP SP2?

I am running windows Xp with zero service packs. I removed service pack 1
which was not a great idea and did a system restore . Windows XP is running
but now has a few hang ups. The sevice pack 1 was on a Cd which is a couple
of years old and Im uncertian of it origin. If you can help I would
appriecate it

Is your Norton's version compatible with SP2? Better check that out.

You're right uninstalling SP1 and a system restore wasn't the greatest of
ideas, but we learn from our errors, I know I have.

Have you tried running the SFC with your original Windows XP disk (you said
you removed SP1 so you're back to RTM)

See TaurArian's reply. I would NOT attempt to install any Service Packs
with the machine in that state. Format & reinstall, if need be, then you
can:

1. Download & install SP2 manually (yes, skipping SP1 altogether); reboot
twice;

2. Then install SP3 (manually, via Automatic Updates, or via Windows Update
website & reboot twice.

3. Then install any other critical security updates offered.

Problems occur after installing Windows Service Pack with a Norton product
installed

SFC = System File Checker
You don't need it now - you reformatted.

How are you downloading SP2, from Windows Update or from the standalone
version.

Standalone Version:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
(Its for single PCs also).
