XP Service Pack 2 update freezing

Service Pack 2 began downloading (app 10MB), when my laptop shutdown
(Toshiba). Now when I go to the update page to download SP2, when I clink on
Exoress Install or Custom Instyyall the update page freezes. When I close it
I am asked if i want to send an error message, in this technical information
I find the following two listings dir00\iexplorer.exe.mdmp and
dir00\appcomput.txt, if this is helpful. I have tried the suggested fixes on
some of the other postings, but this hqas not corrected the problem.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

I am having the same problem SP 2 installed but when I
try to access updates it just keeps searching and freezes
I tried the follwing to noavail if you find a fix let me
know, When I rey to send an error report that page
freeze too.
Express install update failure. The Express install just
keeps searcking for updates,when I try to close the
window or stop the update the page freezes using 100% of
the CPU.
I installed the SP 2 service pack late in August and this
is the first time I tried using windows update. The
Automatic updates are turned on.
I checked the LAN settings OK. I installed the scripting
engine 5.6 OK. I did the SSL test OK. I re-registered the
the following files, msscript.ocx; dispex.dll;
vbscript.dll; scrrun.dll. I checked the .JS Extension
(file was named JS FILE ) and application to perform
action field is OK.

Well, I had a very similar problem with express update
that would freeze at the end and if I close would give me
an IE error.

Turns out that my firewall ( OUTPOST) has ad filter that
would filter out some graphics because they have in their
URL "\banners\" and for some reason WU could not finish at
the end or would after a long wait.
Resolution: I excluded "\banners\" from the filter.

Maybe this could be of some help.
