XP Shutdown Problems

This is a long explanation of a problem and what's been tried. Looking for
any and all suggestions.

After installing XP on my system the system stopped shutting down. When I
click start, shutdown, I see a message "Saving your settings" and then the
"Windows is shutting down" screen. The computer hangs here and must be shut
off manually. On startup there are no messages about incorrect shutdown or
other problems. Startup is normal.

The important info is Specs: 1) Sys Model VT82C692BX 2) Bios Version Award
Software 4.51 PG 3) XP with SP 2 4)hot Fix KB885884 5) 128 Ram 6) X86 Fam 6
Model 7 Step 3 551 MHZ 7)19.10 GB HD with 8.94 GB Free.

I have searched MS Support document to no avail. Have checked BIOS setup to
be sure APM is on. Checked Control Panel Power Management settings. Tried
with setting on, off (Both BIOS and PM). No changes.

Started system in Safe Mode and it did shut down completely. Checked
Logitec site for dirver updates as suggested and installed updated versions.

I've just about run out of ideas. Any suggestions?

Thanks to all. Happy Holidaze!!!

Hey,

I am having exactly the same problem and it is getting me down. Did you
manage to fix it or have any new ideas on how to solve this problem.

Looking how? How hard?

Here's a refinement of the first responder's suggestion.

http://groups.google.co.nz/group/mic...a6247a4e398339

(Google Groups search for
XP Shutdown (hang OR hangs OR hanging) (MSFT OR MVP) group:microsoft.*
- ordered by date to capture current thinking
)

Evidently you have both been "looking" in the wrong newsgroup.
