XP SP 2 Download Failure

I recently knoticed (after purchasing MS Flight Sim X) that my desk top does
not have any service pack update on it. I ran an update but it only
attempted to download an update which it claimed would increase speed and
security, but that download keept failing. I finally was able to download
that update through another source.

Now my computer is listing XP SP2 but it is failing to download. When I
click install the user agreement appears, I accept, then a box appears saying
the

"Updates were anable to be successfully installed

The following updates were not installed:
Windows XP Service Pack 2"

Other then that I am not getting any information regarding how the problem
can be addressed. I have attempted to download the software from some third
parties but when I try to run it a message appears saying that it did not
encounter the software version that it expected.

I generally only use the computer to play MS Flight Sim so I hadn't realized
it was out of date (I don't have SP1 either). This is on a 3.5 year old Sony
Vaio desk top. Has anyone run into this problem?

Thank you for your suggestions!

The update has been downloaded and is failing to install. Did you
download the entire SP2 from here yet ?:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Save it, do NOT run it yet. Please read these articles prior to
installing it:

http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/spackins.htm

Windows XP - Service Pack 2 (SP2) - FAQs & Best Practices
http://aumha.net/index.php?c=16

If, after reading the above and heeding the advice given, SP2 still does
not install, see this :
http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm#C...Service_Pack_2

The relevant logs will be located in the WINDOWS directory (folder) and
be named Svcpack.log and setuapi.log. Use those logs to locate error
messages and post any present either to this newsgroup or to the Windows
XP General NG -

Thank you very much for your help. I was able to download and install SP2
from the first link you provided.

I think I posted it as a seperate question, but now that SP2 is on my
computer I am unable to get a wireless connection. When I click 'view
available wireless connections' the window opens and shows the connection I
want as having excellent strength, but when I click on it, it appears to be
connecting and eventually it just stops with no error message.

Any idea what the problem might be here?

You're welcome. Is there another firewall active besides the native SP2
one ?
