Hello--

I installed IE 7 on my son's computer. Later, there was a problem with
Windows which I had to repair using my original XP disc (unrelated to sp 2 or
IE 7). It rolled back the system to the release date of the disc, which is
sp1. Now, IE 7 doesn't work, and I can't use Microsoft Update to install sp
2, because my IE doesn't work. I've tried to install IE 6 again and use
that, but to no avail. So now, I can't fix IE because I don't have sp2
installed, and I can't install sp 2 without IE. The site won't let me
download the sp using Firefox or Opera... Any advice would be most
appreciated.

does this help it is response to what seems a similar problem

Uninstalling IE7 will automatically return your system to IE6.

To uninstall Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 and return to Internet Explorer 6 on
Windows XP:

1. Click "Start," and then click "Control Panel."
2. Click "Add or Remove Programs."
3. Check "Show Updates" at the top of the dialog box.
4. Scroll down the list to "Windows XP - Software Updates," select "Internet
Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview," and then click
"Change/Remove."
5. If "Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2" does not exist, go to Start > Run and type:

%windir%\$NtUninstallie7bet2p$\spuninst\spuninst.e xe

(To do this, you need to have "view hidden folders" enabled.)

You must uninstall IE7 before re-applying SP2
