I installed XP SP2 last fall and since then have been unable to use HP photo
and imaging software. HP tells me that in order to get their Software to work
again I would have to UNINSTALL XP SP2 and install an HP patch to Image Zone.
My question is this: since there have been numerous critical updates to SP2
since the first download, would I have to start all over installing these if
I uninstall SP2? Could Microsoft and HP not find a solution to the problem
created by SP2 in the photo & imaging software without having to resort to
uninstalling everything? There are numerous others in the same situation...
one only needs to go to HP forums on photo & imaging to see everyone's
frustrations. You would think that some programmer would be smart enough to
correct the registry keys that give an invalid path name which causes I,E. to
open up instead of the photo gallery!

That sounds like the opposite of what you implied you were looking for?

However, if you *want* to restore the original file type associations
for *all* graphic file types try to Run... (e.g. press Win-R and enter

regsvr32 /i shimgvw.dll

Good luck
