XP SP2 download cable modem vs router

Hi!

Question: I have set automatic update ON and noticed that over the weekend,
when my PC connected to cable modem directly, I have downloaded 40MB of data
(presumably XP SP2). Am I right in understanding that there is no icon or any
sign at all that this download is in progress?

Now, when I connect my cable modem to router and router to PC, I loose the
icon that displays how much data received (because treats router like LAN).
Is my XP SP2 still being downloaded? hard to say by looking at the lights,
because I have lots of software automatically connecting to internet often.

Finally, I have no problem downloading the 260MB XP SP2 network installation
for IT professionals that's on the microsoft site, however, I wanted to know
if its a different version from the one supposedly being automatically
installed on my PC? I don't have a network per se, (just a cable modem), and
I am not a IT professional (ie. i don't want an advanced version).

Can anyone answer any of my questions?? Thanks!!

It's the same version. They just use words like "network" and "IT
professional" to scare people.

It's the same. Once you download SP2 from the Microsoft IT download site,
you can burn it to a CD and distribute it to anyone in your family who needs
it. Same with your friends and neighbors.
