We're getting the same results here (have approximately 30 XP SP2 PCs on our
network all running IE6 128-bit SP2) and since a few weeks ago we cannot get
windows update to install any updates. We can get through the site, can see
which updates we need to install, but as soon as we click on install, the
status bar flies straight across the download screen and comes up with
"failed".
Have tried all solutions relating to the error code in the forums, but
nothing is working. Surely Microsoft must be aware there is an issue with
Windows Update by now. It doesn't seem to relate to which version of IE you
are running or what SP your machine is up to. I suspect there is a rogue
element in one of the previous downloads which has stopped this running. The
last successful download run on the machines are:
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 (23rd Sept)
Microsoft GDI+ Detection Tool (KB873374) (22nd Sept)
Windows Media Player 10 (22nd Sept)
Nvidia Corporation - Video - NVIDIA Quadro2 EX (22nd Sept)
Update for Windows XP HighMAT Support in CD Writing Wizard (KB831240) (22nd
Sept)
Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1 (22nd Sept)
Anyone got any ideas yet?
