All,
I just bought a new SATA drive and wanted to rebuild my system around this.
I had XP SP1a w/o no problems for about a year. I did clean install (with
F6 on the way up for the SATA drivers) and installed Windows XP off my
non-serviced packed version. I then had a CD with the chipset (Nforce 2)
drivers and the audio drivers for the on-board sound. I installed the
chipset and audio drivers and rebooted. I then installed the XP SP2 patch
off of CD. When I rebooted, it took about 5 minutes on the windows loading
screen and then froze on the screen where you choose your type of updates
(automatic, etc). I had to turn it off and restart. Then it froze on the
desktop upon rebooting. Finally after a third reboot (each time taking 5
minutes on the loading screen). I could get to the desktop and move around.
One thing I noticed is my BIOS options changed. My CPU was throttled down,
instead of being at 166Mhz it was at 100Mhz, dropping my 2800+ from 2083mh
to 1250 mhz. I corrected that, but found it weird that it changed. The
other thing I found is that I cannto access my CD drive. The BIOS detects
it properly, but windws cant access it. It shows up in Windows explorer,
but when you try to access it (with a CD-R, normal CD or DVD) it freezes,
not able to access it. And I had just used it to install the SP2. Any
insight into these problems? Anyone else getting these dilemas?
Thanks,
Scott
