XP SP2 installation problems

I was asked to look at a friends computer when they told me they stoped the
update, via the internet, of SP2 for XP pro. When I looked at the computer I
could not get Windows to load. I got to a C: and call up the directories
only to find no windows folder. There were only a few folders that I did not
reckongize. Is there any way to get the computer back to the way it was
before installing the SP2 update. Any help would be appreciated.
