After installing sp2, i was prompted to restart my computer. After
restarting, the log in screen sort of froze for a few seconds. When it
finally managed to log me in, every icon and the taskbar took a few minutes
to appear. In other words, every file, folder or program i open now "hangs" or
freezes before either opening or staying frozen.Any help?

First - why are you just installing SP2?

Second - did you update all of your hardware device drivers from the
hardware manufacturer(s) web sites?
(Don't get the hardware updates from Microsoft's Update website/etc - as
they are not likely to have been the ones who created and support said
device(s).)

What antivirus software are you running?

What lead you to this point (how did youget to just installing SP2 on a
system? This a clean install of some sort?) Be as detailed in your
description of what you did to get to this point as possible - including the
computer specs and how you are connected to the internet on this computer...

I had to reformat my entire driver(long story). When I go to the windows
update page, it's asking me to install Sp2, not SP3. About the "frozen"
issue. It happened after installing SP2. Every folder would freeze or take a
while to open .The KB suggester I should update my BIOS.

Some of my specs:
Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 1
(2600.xpsp2.030422-1633)
System Manufacturer: GATEWA
System Model: SR84510A
BIOS: BIOS Date: 08/18/04 20:53:52 Ver: 08.00.10
Processor: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.66GHz
Memory: 1014MB RAM
Hard disk drives: (c)-160GB
(d)-60GB

-Haven't update all my drivers yet, i'll do that.
-No antivirus software yet, im waiting till after i install the service pack.
-Im using a very slow dial up connection on this computer.

What I suggest is updating the hardware drivers from the Gateway page...
(Looks like this according to what you have given)
http://support.gateway.com/support/d...&param=2900729

Then (I hate to tell you to do this knowing you are dial-up - but if you
have a friend/neighbor/family member that can download it and put it on
CD/thumb drive for you - even better) grab SP3 (IT Professional installer)
and get it copied onto the desktop of said machine. Reboot once, run the
SP3 first thing and reboot three more times AFTER it tells you to it is done
installaing SP3 and asks you to reboot the first time. That should get you
up to date much farther down the line.

You mentioned SP1 - that's all you need installed that I know of to get SP3
installed. Service Packs are cumulative - so SP3 will jump you over SP2 and
all post-SP2 updates through April of this year in patches - a good thing
for a dial-up user. ;-)
