I had to completely reinstall my OS. I installed it from my XP Pro SP 1a CD.
After, I did all of the security updates, but one refuses to install,
Security Update for Windows XP (KB835732). Is that preventing SP 2 from
showing up or is SP2 not available for update anymore?

Why not just download the complete SP2 from the MS website, and install ?

Are you referring to the one for IT professionals to deploy on multiple
machines?

1. Download the installer for SP2, save it to your desktop, and install
manually:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...5-9e368d3cdb5a

NB: Disable your anti-virus application and any anti-spyware applications
before installing SP2! Reboot /twice/.

2. Now go to Windows Update > Select CUSTOM and scan > Install all critical
updates offered (well over 85!).

NB: I do NOT recommend installing IE7 via Windows Update or Automatic
Updates!

3. Make certain Automatic Updates is enabled:

Is there a reason that the installer would be extracting to a disk other than
my OS partition? When I ran the installer, it extracted the files to my G:
drive which is a partition on a disk connected to a HighPoint controller, not
even an onboard controller or even the primary partition on that controller.
It then proceeded to fail. When I checked in Disk Management, the primary
partition of that disk was listed as "Active."

So, I think it's because the package installer automatically picks the
disk/drive with the most available HD space (in this case 75.6G on G:/ vs.
37.2G on C:/) Is there any way to turn that off besides just physically
disconnecting that disk.

Go the information from
(http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro.../winupdte.mspx)
