I migrated from sus to wsus, and sp2 does not show up anywhere. I need to
begin deploying it to some computers. We have over 300 computers and want to
test it on a limited number. How do I get it to show up so I can approve it
to these particular computers?

Hi,

Have you configured your WSUS server to show service packs? (default
it doesn't)

FYI:

Please post WSUS questions to the new newsgroup
microsoft.public.windows.server.update_services

WebNews link to the WSUS newsgroup:
http://www.microsoft.com/communities...pdate_services

Or use a newsgroup reader (default Outlook Express) to access this new
group:

Clicking on this link should open this group in OE:

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...pdate_services

In the WSUS admin console:

Options --> Synchronization Options --> Press the "Change..."
button under "Update classifications" --> Select "Service Packs"

Save the settings, then do a new sync. After the sync is finished,
be sure to configure your "Updates" view to show "All updates" or
select "Custom..." and create a service pack view.

That did the trick, thanks so much for taking the time to help.

I have a computer group configured and have one computer in that group and
want to push this out to it. can i make it sync now or does it have to wait
until the AU schedule on that local computer to update?

Hi,

On the client, run this command (from e.g. Start/Run):

wuauclt.exe /detectnow

The computer should shortly after start to download SP2 for WinXP.

After it is downloaded, the AU icon in the system tray will tell
you that it is ready for installation.

i had similar issues, and made the adjustments that you recommended. i
synchd and still have no SP2 with which to deploy. synch is sussessful, but
no new downloads (SPs) are seen. All other update types appear to come down
though.

any ideas? (yes i did the custom view you recommneded as well))

thanks for any assistance
