XP SP2-- system fan continuously runs

Since updating SP2 (including BIOS update) my Dell
Inspiron 5150 has had the system fan run continuously.
Dell's response... none of which have worked:

- revert to pre-SP2 state
- replace fan
- replace motherboard

Now Dell is suggesting:

- micro processor replacement
- fan/heatsink replacement (again?)

I am feeling Dell is replacing my laptop's pats in a
trian-and-error effort to remedy the fan issue.

Any advice/suggestions you can provide is greatly
appreciated.

I doubt severely that two are connected. More of a coincidental problem.
