I am trying to install XP SP2 on a machine using XP Home Edition. I get an
Access Denied message about half way through the install. The setuapi.log
file has 2 error 5 entries:
#E065 Parsing Addreg Section [Product.add.reg] in
"c\5da34d6fa58f7a029346a97ac2ef\i386\update\update .inf" failed. Error 5
Access is Denied the other is #E064 Parsing Install Section [Product
Install.Global Registry Changes.Install] in "c\5da etc etc (Same as Eo65
for the rest. I see lots of evidence of the problem on the net but no
actual solutions. Please, has anyone any idea how to solve the problem?
Bob

Multiposted (albeit by request of a responder...)

Search using Google!
http://www.google.com/
(How-to: http://www.google.com/intl/en/help/basics.html )

Example, a search for:

installing SP2 "Access Denied" "Windows XP"

http://www.google.com/search?q=insta...2Windows+XP%22

Might lead you to:

You receive an "Access is denied" error message when you try to install
Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/873148

While installing SP 2 you received an error stating "Access is denied". The
install then stops and is rolled back.

I am getting the same messages. I tried the work around provided in the help
section. From what I can tell you're supposed to reset the registry
permissions but its not working. I have been trying to install this software
for at least 2 weeks and cannot download pictures from my Canon 40D until its
installed. The articles I looked at were 256986 and 906485. Any help would
be appreciated.

Bob-

I just sent Windows an e-mail asking for some guidance. They are supposed
to e-mail me back within 24 hours. If I get anything useful I will let you
know.

Thanks
