I upgraded my happy working XP system on SP1 to an unhappy SP2. The upgrade
seemed to go okay by after completing and rebooting it enters a continual
reboot cycle. I then restarted in SAFE Mode and turned off automatic reboot.
The error message that comes up is: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
This doesn't make a lot of sense to me so I seek your help please.

My system has two physical Vibra PCI video cards running two monitors. This
system worked fine with XP-SP1 but could it be the source of the problem?

How do I debug this annoying error?

I really appreciate your help... Michael D

Are you sure the message wasn't DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Sorry for the delay in my reply as I was sick.

The exact error message I am receiving after I now restart Win XP in
'normal' startup is:
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Technical information:
***STOP: 0x0000000A (0xF64F4140, 0x0000001A, 0x00000001, 0x804D92A4)

I saw some other hints that I tried like starting the system in 'safe' mode
and running the 'verifier' program to see what drivers are loaded. Every one
is signed by Microsoft, so this doesn't seem to be the cause of this problem.

I am still no closer to finding what is the problem. Your assistance is much
appreciated.

Regards... Michael D

It is definately a device driver problem. Start up in the safe mode and examine the error logs.
Right click on "My Computer" and select Manage. Expand the Event Viewer category and look
through each of the three sub-categories for the red flagged error records. Double click on an
error record to see the details of the error and see what device caused it.

Failing that. remove any unnecessary hardware from the computer. Disconnect any Universal Serial
Bus (USB) devices and printers, and remove the network adapter, sound card, serial adapters, and
so on until you find the one device causing the problem. Personally, I'd start with the Vibra
PCI video cards first.
