xp sp2 update

cannot install sp2 update, when download is attempted from Microsoft, I get
activex error messages, tried to change activex and security settings to no
avail, got sp2 disk from Microsoft, udate did start but stopped with error
message 'required file not found', no indication of what file is not found,
tried to set 'install updates automatically', did not work
