PC Model Dell Optiplex GX280
Intel Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz, 504MB of RAM.

Upgraded the computer to SP2. Upgrade completed successfully, prompted for
reboot.
1. After rebooting, tried loggin to local admin account, login did not
complete and it hangs with a blue screen. Doesn't display the desktop.
2.Tried opening up TaskManager using Ctrl+Alt+Del..was not successful. It
displays only the blue screen.
3. Tried logging with different account, same result.
Has anyone come across this problem.

Thanks

Can you boot the system to Safe Mode ?
Click Start, Shutdown, choose Restart
Repeatedly tap the F8 key after the beep sound prior to XP loading
If you miss it, restart again and keep tapping that F8 key
Choose Safe Mode from the Boot Menu
Once in Safe Mode go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall SP2.
( If SP2 is not listed, check the "Show updates" box )

Before reinstalling SP2, please read this -
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/s...hattoknow.mspx
and
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/spackins.htm

If there was a User logged on, then that's *probably* why the logon
issue occurred.

Thanks MowGreen for responding to my question.
Yes I can bring the system back up, uninstalling XPSP2 by booting into the
safe mode. I was able to do it.
I am trying to find out why I am not able to successfully login after
installing SP2.
If you have any ideas, Please let me know.

Thanks

That *may* be why the logon fails. READ the steps suggested in the two
articles I linked you to in order to avoid issues with the install of SP2.
Or, don't and fight with the system. The choice is yours
