XP SP3 hard copy

I think I want to update to SP3 but would like to have a hard copy of the
update. The option to have a cd posted takes a long time so would like to
download a copy. The XP update site says not to download the iso file if you
are a single computer user, so apart from file sharing sites, where can I get
an appropriate copy of SP3 for my computer?

You can use the ISO download or the .EXE download
from Microsoft. Either will do the job. Just ignore the
words about not for use on a single PC.

Where to download the SP3 .EXE installation file:
(File is large but will only install components that your PC requires)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

ISO image - used to create install CD:
(You must have CD burning software that can use an ISO as source)

Thanks for the info. I see that the ISO file is considerably larger than the
EXE file but you say that the EXE file will only install what is needed. I
assume that the ISO file burnt to a cd will make an installation disc which
then installs everything, is that correct? Will using the EXE to only install
what is needed avoid the reported problems after installing SP3?

The CD created from the ISO file is an "Auto Start/Run" version.
From memory I believe you do get the chance (Menu)
to proceed with the actual install or exit.

As far as what is installed from the ISO CD version,
its still only what you need.

The advantage with downloading the .EXE file is that you
can use it to both install SP3 and make a "Slipstreamed"
version of your original XP CD. The resultant slipstreamed
CD can be used to both install XP from scratch (Clean Install)
or perform a "Repair Install" of a PC that has been updated to SP3.

Thanks very much JS

Not sure I understand everything you've told me but enough to get the task
done. My OEM xp disc will probably not work to create the "slipstream" disc
you mentioned.(actually not sure I know what you mean by this but probably
don't need to either!) The link to pagestart will be very useful too.

Years ago I had a typewriter that used to give very similar typing results
to those from your keyboard :-)
