XP Update Error help

My XP Pro Windows Update won't access the site with an error:

Line: 72
CHAR. 3
Error: Automation server can't create object
Code: 0
URL: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

IE works with other sites via ethernet to DSL fine. AOL works okay. Have
Windows Firewall ON, Zone Alarm ON, NAV 2005 auto protect on.

At a loss where to repair. Command prompt repair greatly appreciated.

I did successfully access and download updates using the
http://v.5windowsupdate link elsewhere noted, but would like to restore the
Update button.
