Hello

Much appreciated if someone can help.

I'm having an error occur when I try and download and install updates.

Here's the details of the error:

Error signature:
AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2055 ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00000000

Exception Information:
Code: 0xc0000005 Flags: 0x00000000
Record: 0x0000000000000000 Address: 0x0000000000000000

It occurs after checking for updates (makes no difference if its express or
custom). I'm told that I need to install components before proceeding with
update:

"
Software Upgrade for Some Windows Components Required

To use Microsoft Update, you must first install the latest version of some
Windows components. This will allow your computer to work with these new
features on the site:

More updates: Get updates for Windows and for popular Microsoft programs
such as Microsoft Office in one place.
Faster updates: The latest Windows Installer (MSI) improves the way updates
are installed, delivering updates in the smallest possible packages in the
shortest amount of time.
Easier navigation: Now you can find updates by priority or by product
while helpful links and important messages help ensure you are installing all
high-priority updates for your computer.
"

The error report occurs immediately after I select <download and install now>.

I'm using Internet Explorer 6.0.2900.2055

Thanks

m.

Pardon? You're running a BETA or RC version of Windows XP SP2?
Uninstall that BETA/RC version of Windows XP SP2 via "Software"
and apply the final version of SP2 ASAP. Afterwards the updates
should be found without crashing IE and install fine.

Bye,
Freudi

Ah, that will come from buying a second hand computer then.

Thanks very much for answering so quickly.

All the best
