Xp Updates not working

I have been unable to install updates recently for SP1. I have turned off
firewall and virus control while downloading and installing. Should I just
try and install SP2 instead. Advice appreciated.

If you do not have SP-2, it is recommended you install SP-2 immediately.
Also, SP-2 replaces all but the most recent updates.

Thanks Jonesy,
I followed your link and after some reading found that I had a crytographic
error. This might help other readers with the same problem. I was directed
to Control Panel>Admin Tools>Cryptographic Services. Right click
cryptographic services and select properties. From the drop down list select
Automatic then press start. I found I was able to continue downloading SP1
the SP2. Everything is running beautifully now on SP2. This problem has been
bugging me for week. I hope this helps others. Thanks for the advice,

A quick note on updates. Mine were not working at all. Windows update page
gave an error 0.x800B0001. Had received a "logo testing error" during a
printer install. Tried everthing to get sp2 and finally found a batch file
that reset my pc to receive all updates and now all is well again. Find
batch file at www.michna.com/kb/fixdb.bat
