XP updates- problem

Hi Guys,
I have the lastest updated version of WindowsXP SP2, and it updates via auto
updates. I keep getting a latest downloads indicator on the taskbar, as
soon as I click it to instal, it starts by opening the installation box then
says the following updates were not installed Microsoft Windows Installer
3.1, time and time again any idea what the problem is or do I not need the
update

I don't have an answer for you but I think you have posted to the wrong
newsgroup. This is for Vista-related issues so I think you'd get a much
better response in microsoft.public.windowsxp.general
