Everytime I shutdown I get the familiar "do not turn off your computer
installing updates" then i get installing 1 of 2 for about a minute then 2 of
2 for a minute and the machine shutsdown, but as soon as i reboot and
shutdown it all happens again, this seems to be interfering with the
installation of SP3 as this does not attepmt to install. Is it possible to
delete the temp files and if so where does windows store them? ty

Post the last 50 or lines of the WindowsUpdate.log, please.
Start > Run > type in or copy%paste the below into the Open: line and
then click OK or press Enter

%windir%\windowsupdate.log

Make sure the section of the log posted contains the KB numbers of the
updates that are trying to install.
Include any section that include any FATAL or WARNING entries plus the
preceding and following entries.

To stop the repeated installation attempts for now, disable Automatic
Updates via the Automatic Updates applet in the Control Panel.
Set it to " Turn off Automatic Updates "
Then disable the Automatic Updates service by opening the Services
console [ Start > Run > type in
services.msc
Click OK ]

Double left click on Automatic Updates and set the 'Startup type' to
Disabled. Click Apply, OK.
Close the services console.

The EXACT same thing happened to me, boom. I found the following page and
followed the instructions:

http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archi...10/502439.aspx

It does require one small download, linked to on the page. But I followed
the instructions and it fixed everything perfectly. If the updates you're
having trouble with are related to .NET -- mine were KB928366 and KB928367 --
then that site should fix your problem.

Good luck.
