XP to Vista Questions

I plan to buy a new Vista computer. I'm concerned about how to transfer my
Outlook Express accounts (and e-mails) to Windows Mail.
Also my WAB, with three identities. And my IE Favorites.
If I create a FAST file on my existing XP computer, can I use it to transfer
the WAB, Internet Favorites, etc.?

DON'T DO IT! See if you can buy an XP machine.

Lincoln actually got it right but was way ahead of his time when he said,
"You can have some of you computer working all of the time and all of your
computer working some of the time but..." It was he that said that, wasn't
it?

JD,

Pay no attention to BobF. Would you go out and buy a 2001 car? I have an HP
computer with Windows Vista installed since March 2007. NO problems. Our
computer club now has 13 computers with Vista installed. All are performing
on our network like champs.

Problems occur when one tries to install Vista on a machine that doesn't
have the wherewithall to properly support Vista. When you locate a computer
that you would like to buy, opt for hardware upgrades in almost every
category, i.e., more RAM, more hard drive, more robust video card, etc.
Other problems occur to those users that want instant gratification and
reassurance that they have done the right thing.

Export your Outlook Express files, and import them into Windows Mail.

"Export OE files and import them into Windows Mail."
Is this done for each of the three identities? Will this also copy the WAB
into the new computer?
Ditto with OE Favorites?
Thanks.

Windows Mail does not support Identities. You can use RULES to send each
address to a different folder. Check the Windows Mail group here.

No, you can't use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard to gather items
from XP to be moved to Vista. You would need to use your Vista DVD/CD and
use the new EasyTransfer system in Vista to gather the files from XP, then
they can be directly imported into your new Vista system.

There are no identities in Windows Mail, that feature has been eliminated.
You'll have to create individual User accounts in Vista, log on to each User
in turn and import their OE identity emails into an account in Windows Mail.
Multiple email accounts for the individual user are still supported. The
WAB will also be combined into one large unorganised address book when
imported into Vista's contacts list. Mind, I never got XP to retain the
customised address books for individual identities either if I had to import
a WAB file to a new install.
