XP->Vista Upgrade, now can't use old accounts

I had four accounts on my XP Professional system. After upgrading, I cannot
access any of the four *unless* I log into Safe Mode. From Safe Mode, all
four function normally. Without Safe Mode, all four immediately shift from
"loading your personal settings" to "logging out"--and right back to the
choose-your-login-id panel.

The Administrator account, which I finally (after four hours) was able to
make visible on the login page, can be used to login even outside of Safe
Mode. I have not seen any problems with devices, display modes, or other
clearly visible components.

How can I diagnose the login problem further, in order to restore use of my
old accounts?

It's always recommended to do a clean installation - but make sure you post
what you think of what's happened to the beta team - they'll appreciate
wanting to know )

Riko,

so you used the File and settings migration wizard and it moved the accounts
and files but then logging on doesn't work? or did you just do a straight
upgrade?

I upgraded build 5384 Beta 2 over Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2. In my
case, I only had one user set up before the upgrade. When I enter my
password correctly, Vista logs me on, loads my personal settings and logs me
right off again, bouncing me back to the login screen where it asks for my
password again. Someone wrote that you could log in with safe mode, but I
haven't tried that. In any case, safe mode will be useless, so I don't see
how logging in safe will help anything. I guess I could try to create
another user, but what a PITA. -Dave

I too am having similar problems (with XP). I set Vista up as a dual-boot
system (installing Vista on its own partition). When I logged into XP, a lot
of my icons are "missing", and it didn't look the same. It appears it has
something to do with who the owner is. I had an Owner folder, as well as my
name. It appears XP is picking up the "owner profile ??" and not my "name
profile". Any ideas? I like Vista, but the security is truly a PITA.
