I wanted to check & update any XP Updates. When Windows Update is invoked
(from Internet Explorer) I get a blank page and on the bottem left hand
corner an icon appears with ! with the words DONE. When I open this icon, I
get: " Problems with this Web page might prevent it from being displayed
properly or functioning properly ... ". I also can see the following :-
Line: 72 Char: 3 Error: Automation Server Can't create object Code: 0 and
then the URL: http://wondowsupdate.microsoft.com. End of error message.

Can someone direct me as what the issue is and what fix I can do. Searched
the Micrsoft Web on Windows Update but no luck.

When you try to access the Windows Update Site, a blank page opens.

Register JSCRIPT.DLL
Click Start, Choose Run.
In the Run box, type regsvr32 jscript.dll
Click OK.

also
This error may occur if your Internet security for ActiveX controls is set too high.
Javascript error Line: 59 Char: 2 Error: Permission denied Code: 0 URL:
http://www.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

Restore ActiveX settings to default settings

Start Internet Explorer.
On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
Select the Security tab.
Select the Internet web content zone icon.
To adjust the security level, click the Custom Level button.
In the Reset to box, select Medium.
Click the Reset button.
Click OK.

Hi,

Restored my computer back to it's original windows set-up on the 27th, and
have been trying to update myself since then. I'm getting the same problem.

I've already registered JSCRIPT.dll, and updated all the Java settings in
Internet Exployer, but to no avail.

I have the same problem after a repair install of XP. I've concluded it is
some problem with ActiveX and/or Java. Can you decode the above and
recommend steps for fixing the missing applet, etc?

Thanks

Hi;

You need to be logged in with an account that has Administrator level
privileges. If the account you are using isn't in the Administrator Group,
then you will need to log in with a different account.

First, install the latest update to be sure the scripting support is there.
Download/install this:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Next, open Control Panel/Internet Optoins. Click the Security tab, then
click Trusted Sites. Click Sites... and UNcheck the option to force HTTPS.
Then at the top of that window type in *.microsoft.com and then click Add.
Close/OK your way out.

Last, on the Start/Run line type "services.msc" and when that opens check
that Automatic Updates Service is set to Automatic and Started; and that
BITS is set to Manual.

Restart the computer, being sure you log in with the Admin-level account.
Give Windows Update another try. Do you still get the same error?

Sky King,

Hi. Yes, if I do all of this, it does work. But if I remove
*.microsoft.com from the Trusted Sites list, it no longer allows me
access to the Windows Update Site. This is only affecting my mother's
computer. My computer, nor my sister's, needs to have the
*.microsoft.com entry in the Trusted Sites list. Why is that? My mom
did have some spyware/malware on her computer, I noticed 3 items that
had entered themselves into the Trusted Sites list, and that her
Windows Automatic Updates had been turned off. I used Ad-Aware and no
longer get any hits on the system. I turned Windows Automatic Updates
back on, and I tried removing the 3 mysterious entries from the Trust
Sites list. Two of them removed successfully, but one wouldn't, so I
got rid of it's key (2 places) in the registry. My mom's computer also
keeps popping up the message that says something like, "Sensitive
information sent over the internet is not necessarily secure. Blah,
blah, blah." It's the message you always get when you first use
Internet Explorer, but you just check the box to say "never come back"
and it usually never comes back, but my mom's keeps coming back.

Any suggestions, other than those already mentioned? I don't really
want to have to keep adding sites to the Trust Sites list just to be
able to use them. This has also been a problem when trying to write
emails on the Yahoo.com site. It doesn't allow you to click in the
message body area to type text. I get an "Error on page" message in
the bottom left of the browser window and in there it also states a
"Permission Denied" error, like the Windows Update site. Don't really
want to have to keep adding each and every site to the Trusted Sites
list. Thanks.

Ryan, not sure. Does your Mom's account have full Admin rights? Is she
using XP Pro or XP Home? If Pro, be sure the Guest account is turned off,
and that no one is a member of the Guests Group.

Since you state that her system did have some malware installed, and that
you had trouble removing one of the "mystery" entries in the Trusted Sites
list, I'd suspect that there are still some uglies floating around in the
background there. In the long run it might be simpler just to save all her
personal data and settings, then do a totally clean install of XP and her
other programs. If some of those malware things have become imbedded, it
may take a lot of digging and effort to clean out all the stubs.

Yup. Unfortunately, your last thought was the conclusion that I had
come to as well. I'm finding that there seem to be other things wrong,
all related to IE and registry entries. I think that it's gotten
corrupt. Bummer. Thanks for the help.
