XP2 install

I have an Athlon 64 CPU (3.2 gig) PC. I installed Win XP Pro (2 yr old). I
recently tried to install SP2 and my PC crashed, would not respond, and on
reboot told me I had a corrupt system32 file. An entire re-install was needed
(twice) to get system going. Does SP2 have a gripe with Athlon 64 CPU's?? If
so, is a fix available?? If not do I just avoid certain p[arts of SP2? Be
advised, I don't want to reinstall XP Pro again....
