XPSP2 black screen after a few minutes

Each time I install XP SP2 my Samsung Syncmaster 173V screen goes off and
the power light flashes as if it is not receiving any signal. No keyboard or
mouse input can get it back on. This happens between one and five minutes
after booting. The only solution is to reset the computer. If I boot in Safe
Mode it does not happen. If I use system restore to go back to before the
SP2 install all is well again. I have the latest monitor driver and latest
Nvidia update.
Any ideas?

Check the System event log. Go to Start > Run type in
eventvwr.msc
Click OK
Click on System in the left frame
Under Type look for Errors
The Errors should show a driver listed under Source if that's where the
issue lies.

Another log to check out would be the setupapi.log located in %windir%
Suggest starting at the bottom and working your way back up to the top
to look for error codes associated with a failed driver install.

The issue *sounds* as if it stems from the Power Options, specifically,
system standby. Perhaps the Motherboard needs the BIOS flashed ?
Have you checked the manufacturer's web site to see if one is available
that is related to SP2 ?
