I've found what I believe to be a quircky bug in the new Yahoo-support!

I've had a miscrosoft passport that's based on my yahoo mail-account
(*****@yahoo.com) for a very long time, and this has always worked fine.

The problem is that now that they've put support for yahoo messenger into LIVE
messenger the LIVE messenger that my contacts are using checks the yahoo
server (I think) to see if I'm online with yahoo-messenger which I'm
obviously NOT
(!!!) because I've never had a yahoo messenger account, and never will get a
yahoo messenger account.

The problem is that I now always appear to be offline even when I'm online!
I hope MS will fix this ASAP!

hmmm.. so I found that Signing out, and signing back in again with that yahoo
account doesn't work. But when I did the following, my yahoo-based account
worked again:

1) Sign out of the Yahoo-based account
2) Sign in with a hotmail (/other [not tested]) account
3) Sign out of this hotmail/other account
4) Sign in with the Yahoo-based account

All of a suddon the online/Offline workst again.. :^/

I believe the problem you are haveing with appearing offline is because you
do not have a YaHoo messenger account. It's not saying you are Offline as
"off the internet," it's saying you are Offline with Yahoo Messenger. Since
you do have a YaHoo mail account you do have a YaHoo messanger account
avalible to use.
Their like tied togeather in YaHoo.

Yes, I know.. It looked as if it was saying that I was offline with Yahoo
Messenger, thing is .. i've never used that. What do you do when someone has
a MS-passport based on a Yahoo-mailaccount yet which is used to log into
Messenger..? this person will never appear online with Yahoo messenger
because he/she chooses not to even get started with that whole yahoo stuff...
ever?

Now, as I posted before I got it solved with logging in and out with an
alternate account. And I don't know if it's a real bug, or if it was just a
quirk of my own system.

I don't know what else to tell you, I just think that it's being specific to
Yahoo and not to MS at all? I too am using a YaHoo address, but I also use
YaHoo messenger??

I'm in the exact same boat. I've used my Yahoo email address as my .Net
Passport/MSN/Windows Messenger login for years. The problem is worse now
though. You now recieve the following message from

Windows Live(TM) Messenger Service Staff says:
Important service announcement: Because of a recent system update, you must
change the e-mail address that you use to sign in to Windows Live(TM)
Messenger. Until you change your e-mail address, you won't be able to use
Windows Live(TM) Messenger.

To change your e-mail address and find out more about this system update, go
to http://support.microsoft.com/gp/Messenger/en

The link they give isn't even a valid link. Others never see me as online
and then it kicks you out. I did find that I can log into
webmessenger.msn.com with my Yahoo account and send messages to other
messenger users. MSN/Windows Messenger users that don't already have you
added to their contact list cannot add your new yahoo.com based
Passport/Windows Live account.

I definately hope Microsoft can get this resolved as I have always used my
Yahoo account for Windows/MSN/Live Messenger and all of my contacts have me
listed that way. It would be a major deal to have to get all of those people
to re-add me with a new account.
