I am getting a message telling me that my computer is infected! Windows had
detected spyware infection. Windows will now download and install the most
up-to-date antispyware for you.
If I click on it it wants to download Awola Antispyware 6.0. Is this a
legitimate message?

I am getting the same message. I googled "awola", the company that wanted to
eliminate the spyware & found that it is fraudulent. This is not a message
from microsoft. The tips to remove it suggested the removal process might
destroy my computer if I did not use another anti spyware device. Hence,
like you, I'm trying to find a legitimate answer to get rid of this pop up
that occurs every 10 seconds!

Hi there,

You are probably infected with a Trojan, see for details:

Good luck and best regards,

After the software is updated, it is suggested scanning the system in Safe
Mode.
How do you boot to Safe Mode?
By pressing/tabbing F8 (or F5 on some keyboards) during re-boot.
Alternatively:
click onto Start==>Run, type "msconfig" (without quotation marks), click
OK. Then click onto BOOT.INI tab and 'check' /SAFEBOOT then OK and click
Restart. To go back to Normal Mode, you must access the System
Configuration utility again and click the General tab then click/check the
radio button 'Normal Startup'- load all device drivers and services'.
