Most slaves were thus smuggled into the country after that
date and were illegal.
A. Lincoln had plans to deport the illegal former slaves
after the Civil War.
The Indians (Native Amercans) were treated very poorly and
were the victims of criminal acts by civilians and the
military. If Custer and his men were alive today, they
would likely stand trial.
But all in all, no other nation, now or past, has freed as
many people, protected freedom or promoted freedom as has
the U.S.A.
