Yet another "contacts offline" problem

I changed the email for my LiveID a while ago to be <something>@hotmail.com.
Since then, contacts seem to be online/offline just randomly. Sometimes
deleting a contact (or telling him to do so) fixes the problem, at least
temporarely, but most of the times it won't.. I also tried many "fixes" I
could find with the registry, deleting the cache folders etc.. Seems like
nothing will do.

Recently, I got told more than once that people see my OLD email address
instead of the current one and they, of course, aren't able to see me online
ever (I cannot login with this email address, that was previously linked to
the LiveID)

I'm totally clueless now, I got 30 persons on my contact list, but only 2 or
3 of them work just fine. The others, I either see them offline all the time
or they do. Any help is appreciated..

ps: I guess creating a new LiveID would solve this issues, but I fear I
can't go this way cause too many things relate to my LiveID and current
hotmail.com address

pps: right now I use the latest Live Messenger, but have had this problem
with version 7 and up, on every PC and also using web messenger

Here's what I'd try if I were in your position.

i) Export your contact list (Contacts, Save instant messenging contacts)
ii) Run the fix mentioned here - Windows Live Messenger Issues with Add
Contacts -

iii) Import the contact list that you just previously exported above
(Contacts, Import instant messenging contacts)

Thanks for the tip, but it didn't work out

I did some other tests and noticed that when I add a contact for the first
time, they get the request from my OLD email address (the one that's not
working). If we remove each other from the contacts and then readd it
works... For a while cause it appears that my old email randomly takes the
place of the correct one in their list
