"You do not have permission to send to this recipient"

Hi --

I have an SBS 2003 SP2 box running Exchange 2003 SP2. And a user on a
Windows XP Pro SP3 box running Outlook 2003 SP3.

The user is a member of a distribution group. When he tries to send out
email on behalf of that distribution group, though, the email is returned
with the message "You do not have permission to send to this recipient. For
assistance, contact your system administrator."

He got this message despite the fact that the group's permissions list gave
Authenticated Users Send As rights. He continued to get this message after I
added him personally to the group's permissions list and gave him Send As
rights. He continues to get this message even after I changed his
permissions to Full Control. I've restarted every Exchange service and the
SMTP service. Every time this user tries to send out an email using the
distribution list's address, it gets bounced back to him with that "You do
not have permission to send to this recipient" error.

What am I missing here?

Thanks,
CL

Hi Charles:

There appears to be a solution to how to send as a distrubution group here:

http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Sending-As.html

but have you considered that the recepient has actually some block in place?

Has the Dist Group ever been deleted and recreated? If the user is selecting
the DL from the Outlook drop down list, and not the GAL (clicking To: and
selecting from the GAL), ask the user to try that. It may be a corrupted
entry in the nick name list.

Does anyone else have this problem?
You need to assign the Send As persmission to a mail-enabled object,
so you can't use Authenticated Users. You can assign them directly to
him, or to a mail-enabled security group, though.

Set up another test DL and see whether you can reproduce the problem.

I mis-read the post, and I responded based on a different scenario.

I must agree with you, Lanwench, that Authenticated Users or any other
'special' built-in group can't be used. A separate mail enabled group has to
be used.

Whew, that's what I get for not getting enough sleep! :-)

Disregard my response above, please. It's for a different issue and
scenario.
