You have 1 invitation

Vista Home premium SP2, WLM 14.0.0726
This one is bugging me.
Each time I turn on Messenger, it says I have 1 invitation. When I click
it, the next window says I don't.
What's the deal ?

It's not unheard of for this value (as well as the mail count) to not be synced properly. In
most cases it will just fix itself after a brief period.

This has been happening for at least a couple of months for me.

I have two accounts linked, so I always just assumed it was an invitation
sent to my other account, but neither of my accounts have any invitations. I
wish I could just turn invitation notifications off, but I don't think there
is a setting for such. It's more of an annoyance then anything else.

I should ass that it happened on my old XP machine, as well as my new Windows
7 PC.

I have unlinked my two accounts just to see if it clears up.

How can I get rid off it?

I got this reply from Microsoft Customer Support:

I understand even though you have no pending invitations to approve, when
you sign in Windows Live Messenger, you always see a reminder that you have
one. I realize how confusing this is.

Please know that this is a known issue with Windows Live Messenger. Our
product group is aware of this and is diligently investigating and working
for a a resolution. The fix is set to be rolled out on the next release of
Windows Live Messenger.

Again, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have
caused you.

I've been having this problem for about a year now.. Now that I've been
forced to upgrade on my laptop I'm getting it on there too.

It doesn't seem to have been fixed in any way. It's really annoying!

The fix for this issue is much simpler than you realise.
Simply uninstall messenger, clean the registry and all backups so you can do
a clean install of messenger again.
This has resolved the issue for me.

Oh, so for a layman, cleaning "the registry" sounds so simple. Thanks!
(....for the confusion).


Anyone else want to explain what clean the registry means?
