I had this same error on my last live account..after 7 months, and 4 emails
to different departments of Microsoft, and not a single reply, I let my
passport expire by not using it, and made a new 1...that was fine for the
first month, and now it always says 1 have 1 invitation every time i log in.
I have tested on over 100 different computers with different version of
windows and messenger...same thing.. i tried reinstalling, reformatting, same
thing. The error seems to be within the windows live communications server
its-self and not messenger.

I have been using windows live messenger for over 8 years now, and it has
only been happening in the last year or so. I fail to see how the problem can
be in messenger, (as Microsoft states), as it happens on older versions of
messenger that predate the error by more than 6 years..So after a year of
this annoying error...I'm wondering when they are going to release an updated
version of messenger that supposedly addresses this problem, and I am also
wondering why they didn't fix it in the 7 builds of messenger that they
released after the error first started occurring...

As a side note, I was fairly confident that the error could be reproduced by
receiving an invitation to join someones network, then blocking them or
removing them from your network after you accepted the invitation..which is
what I thought happened on my last account..but on this new one I have not
been sent any invitations by anybody..so i'm at a loss to explain it....

Greetings,

It is most likely a server bug - but the support group will say it's the client as they don't
really differentiate between the two. Their support replies are intended for the least
common denominator.

That said, they won't fix it till the server gets a new major revision, as is common with
long-standing Messenger server issues.

The fix to this issue is:

Signout of MSN Messenger and close the MSN Messenger application.

Browse to C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Wind ows Live Contacts

Delete the contents of this folder.

Start MSN Messenger and sign in.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

The problem with that fix is that the problem just comes back in a day or two. So there
isn't much point unless you're clearing it out daily.
