you have a security problem popup

Hi

I have an issue with my Toshiba laptop, Iam running Windows vista on it, and
I am getting this anoying popup" you have a security porblem!" it comes up
very offen, and I cant do any work with the lap top. any one have a sugation
how can I get rid of the, please help.

Yes, you have a security problem, and that popup itself almost certainly is
caused by a malware infection you have.

It's sounds like one of those viruses that imitate a security program and
insist you pay someone to fix it. I would try the MRT app you have from MS
to check for some of those. Start/.../Run, type:

VIRUS. Download from MS - Windows Defender. Also (find on Google) adaware
and spybot search and destroy.

AVG does that if one of its elements is not working.

Insufficient description of icon attaced to this message you get, and exact
wording to ascertain if it is indeed Malware.
My advice: installl Programs below, and scan your System for Spyware and
Malware.

Download, install, update, and immunize your System with it.
Then SCAN with it.
Update it, and scan your System once a fortnight.

Download, install, and update.

Important re: Safe Mode
If you happen to find a problem that you can’t uninstall / delete, reboot
the computer, and go into Safe Mode.
To get into Safe mode, tap F8 right at Power On / Startup, and use UP arrow
key to get to Safe Mode from list of options, then hit ENTER.
RESCAN your computer with your Anti-Virus, Malwarebytes and Spybot S & D
while in Safe Mode.

I have a similar problem with VISTA. Defender keeps turning itself OFF
every once and a while and I get an alert that defender is not enabled
anymore. I never turned it off??? I just keep turning it ON when this
happens.

Next time please make a new post for your problem and include all pertinent
information such as what antivirus/antispyware program(s) you are running,
whether this is a new problem, what scans with your av/antispyware programs
have shown, etc.

Knowing what you are using for security is important. For instance, if you
are using Windows Live OneCare, it will turn off Windows Defender and also
the built-in Windows Firewall.

So please clarify your situation, which may not be the same as the Original
Poster's at all.

(1) No other antispyware programs are in use.
(2) I use ClamWin for antivirus which VISTA can't see; so I have
antivirus checking turned OFF.

It happened again last night. But, this time I think I know what is
happening. If VISTA sees an update; for some reason the update (if for
defender) turns off the feature during the update, and turns it back on
again after the update.
The original poster doesn't look as though they speak perfect English;
so, I'm not sure if you will get another response. I believe the pop-up
he may be referring to is the balloon help/hint that pops up when the
task bar application has something important to inform the user about.
Defender does this when it finds itself disabled for any reason
informing the user of the potential for a security problem.

I really don't think the OP will be back and my comments were not addressed
to him for that reason.

Windows Defender doesn't behave the way yours does on my Vista machine or
any of my clients' Vista machines. I never get a popup saying Defender is
off when I update it. So I would say something is wrong on your machine.
Consider running a Vista-compatible resident antivirus instead of ClamAV.
Avast is a good one. You might also do some more thorough
virus/malware-scanning since a non-resident antivirus is not really useful
in a Windows environment and will not catch non-viral malware anyway.
