WinRAR is a great program, obviously it's too much of a program
for you to handle.

You can right-click a zip file and choose "Open With" and then
"Choose Default Program".

Or, fix file associations;

i never said win-rar wasn't a great program, as a matther of fact i liked
it but i had the demo and when i un-installed it left my zip file with no
program to open them, now i know explorer has the ability to open them but
the icon it created for the zip file where all weird looking, so i am
thinking may be there is another way to reset the association

i did this but like i said there were no programs to open it, since win-rar
was gone

not my problem at this point, it's not spam by the way, it's a sig for work
and i need it left alone,

again i apologies for multiple thread but you have to understand i looked
everywhere for the thread i had but they just wouldn't show up in my
newsgroup list, i am not one to spam but i was getting irritated to find
that i had no answer waiting for me so i would create another thread, sorry
about that, since i now see my thread i will no longer create a similar one
(unless it gets deleted before i'm done with this thread) hopefully the
link will help me thanks for your help btw

WOW!!!! great website thank you, it worked right away, thanks so much. you
will not see me creating a similar thread again, as long as the same problem
(the problem of thread being deleted before i can read anything) doesn't
happen again.

Of course it changed all of your associations, you selected 'Express
Install'. What you are suppose to do is select 'Advanced' install, and
de-select all of the file types to register except for .rar archives. Not
your fault there, just telling you what happened.

WinRAR is by far better than most comperession programs. I would
recommend you re-install it using the 'Advanced' option and de-selecting
all extensions except for RAR archives.

Version 3.61 is what I have installed. The program continues to work
after the evaluation period, like WinZip does, but you just click
'Close' on the reminder as soon as it opens, as opposed to WinZip, which
still functions after eval, but has a significant delay before you can
continue.

The WinRAR context menu is great, and I use it constantly. When
extracting using the context menu there is no eval reminder, unlike
WinZip.

I guess it doesn't really matter if you're only un-zipping something once
in a while, then maybe the intrinsic half-implemented 'Zip Folder' within
Vista will be adequate.....that is, if you like each zip file showing in
the Folder Treeview as a directory. I don't, it's a file, not a folder.
