Zone Alarm and KB951748

I've read through several of the messages regarding the new update -
KB951748. I first noticed my problems a few days ago. Yesterday, I couldn't
get my computer to connect at all so then called my ISP. After telling them
that I had Norton and Zone Alarm, he game me a number to Zone Alarm tech
support. They wouldn't answer the call - "That number is busy, good bye" or
some such. So, I went ahead and uninstalled Zone Alarm. I hated to do that
as that little locked symbol means a lot to this non-technical person. I
immediately got a notice from Norton that I didn't have my firewall turned on
and did I want to turn it on (sorry, don't remember exact messages) - I
clicked yes. Now, whenever I try to connect after having logged off at one
point, I always have to run the diagnostics - same as I had to do with the
Zone Alarm before I wasn't able to access at all.

Though I have "Automatic Updates" checked, the past two days I've come to
the Microsoft website and clicked on updates and have have major updates
download. I figured one of those would have the fix for the troubles I've
had connecting lately, plus I've been feeling unsafe without Zone Alarm even
though the Norton thing assures me I'm good.

All this to ask a couple of questions: Why am I still having trouble
connecting to the internet (still being able to resolve by running
diagnostics), and am I covered with just Norton Incoming Firewall or should I
download the current version of Zone Alarm Free? Is Microsoft firewall safe
and effective?

I'm not computer illiterate, but am feeling a bit helpless these past 24
hours.... Thanks for advice.

You only need one firewall on - not three.

If you want ZA -

http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...cessIssue.html

Platforms Affected : ZoneAlarm Free, ZoneAlarm Pro, ZoneAlarm AntiVirus, ZoneAlarm
Anti-Spyware, and ZoneAlarm Security Suite

Download and install the latest versions which solve the loss of internet access problem
here (English only):

· ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite

· ZoneAlarm Pro

· ZoneAlarm Antivirus

· ZoneAlarm Anti-Spyware

· ZoneAlarm Basic Firewall

I had the same issue. After I allowed the auto update for July including
KB951748, I could not get access to internet at all. I called my ISP service
tech in and he did troubleshooting and found that if I disabled my zone
alarm, I could get access. So not wanting to run without my Zone Alarm
Internet Security Suite. I merely went to the Control Panal....Add/Remove...
and REMOVED KB951748 and everything runs smoothly again. I would rather do
without a MS security update than run without Zone Alarm which has proven
very effective and valuable in the long run.

Then your computer will be infected. ZoneAlarm can't save you from this class
of attack; only keeping the computer patched can do that.

In any case, the latest update to Zone Alarm fixes the problem, so you can have
both.

Harry.

Yup the update did something to Zone alarm to block all traffic.

What you need to do is..drop the the internet security level to medium under
the Firewall settings on the left side.

Once that is medium..it should let you connect to the internet. AT this
time, you can go to the zonelabs website and download the latest zonealarm
which has the fix for the issue.

Once installed you can now change the internet settings to high.

But for some reason only the newer versions.
I use ZA 4.5.594 and that was not affected.

Ditto here. Went back to ZAF 4.5.594 and everything normal again.
