Check the hardware manufacturer's web site for a Windows 2003 driver for
    your graphics adapter.
    256 color = 8 bit

  3. Lam,

Do you have the manufacturer's video drivers for your adapter?
Are you using the drivers "built-in" to Windows Server 2003?

  5. The only choices you get in 2003 are 16 bit or 32 bit, both of which have
    more than 256 colors.

If you have an application that requires 256 colors to run, you can right on
the application and choose properties, go to the compatibility tab. There
is a check box for 256 colors. This will run the program in 256 colors when
    you launch it.
