    Hi,

    Can any one help please.

I've searched high and low for these KB files and to my surprise I'm unable
to find anything, not even via the search engine.

This is the message I get:
    ------
    Initializing installation... done!
Installing Update for Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter (KB919031) (update 1 of
    4)... failed!
Installing Security Update for Excel 2003 (KB918419) (update 2 of 4)...
    failed!
Installing Security Update for Office 2003 (KB917151) (update 3 of 4)...
    failed!
Installing Security Update for Office 2003 (KB914455) (update 4 of 4)...
    -------

Does anyone have a solution please to fix this... I've tried turning off my
firewall, but this didn't do anything either. :(

    Thanks in advance.

    Warm regards,

    Loz

  2. It seems likely that your Office 2003 installation is damaged. Have you at
any time recently used a so-called "Registry Cleaner"? If so, it is
possible that your registry is now damaged in respect of the Office 2003
    entries.

For instance, the Windows Live Safety Center registry scan might cause these
    problems.

If this case applies to you, you should back your system up to a time before
    you used the registry cleaner.

To restore from the backup made by the Windows Live Safety Center, do the
    following:

    1. Use control panel "Folder Options", tab "View", to enable "Show hidden
    files
and folders", and un-check "Hide extensions for known file types".

    2. Close all Internet Explorer windows.

    3. Use Windows Explorer to navigate to folder:

    C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Windows Live Safety
    Center\BackUp\

and double-click the .reg file previously created by the Microsoft Safety
    registry cleanup.

Please report back whether this fixes your problem.

    Otherwise, you can try:

    1. In any Office 2003 application, pull down Tools, and select "Detect and
Repair" (it might require the Office installation CD-ROM).

    2. Uninstall Office 2003 completely, and re-install, then apply the latest
Office 2003 Service Pack and all pending Office 2003 updates.

    Cheers Robin,

But I don't use that software you mention of.

My Office software works fine, if it were damaged, it wouldn't work.
This also doesn't explain why outlook express update wont install either.
It has nothing to do with office 2003. Weird.. any other suggestions mate?

    Cheers.

    Warm regards,

  6. It is damaged because the updates will not install.
As I said in my earlier post:

Strange, it said it installed it ok, now I got this:

Updates were unable to be successfully installed:
    ------------
Update for Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter (KB919031)
Security Update for Excel 2003 (KB918419)
Security Update for Office 2003 (KB917151)
Security Update for Office 2003 (KB914455)
    ---------

And the yellow sheid thing keeps popping up telling me the updates are ready
    to install..

    Any clues?

    Cheers,

    Warm regards,

    Robin,

I have used a Reg cleaner (Regedit) but I have sued it before and oterh
updates worked after last use of it. I did go and reset Register to condition
    before last clean.

I have also replaced OSE file from Office 2003 disc and rebooted but I still
get the Error Code: 0x80070643 message. I have checekd that OSE is enabled.

I am a bit reluctant to re-instll Office 2003. Will I lose associated work
    files?

It also seems a bit odd that several people are having problems with this
    particular installation.

    Regards,

    Barry

  10. Before you resort to re-installing Office, have you tried "Detect and
    Repair" as previously advised?

Removing and re-installing Office will not lose any documents filed in other
    folders.

    Hi Robin,

I tried Detect & Repair (including also from CD) but I just got a fail
    message.

I have now bitten the bullet and re-installed MS Office 2003 with all
service packs etc. I am now shown as having no critical updates needed and am
hopeful, but not entirely convinced, that the re-install has solved the
    problem.

I have strangled the Reg cleaner program!!

Thanks for your help. I will monitor this Group at least until next month's
    updates are successful.

    Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
I experienced the same problem: the updates for Office 2003

    KB 919031, KB 917151, KB 918419, KB 914455

could not be installed on my father's computer with Windows XP, despite
    repeated attempts.

Last week I used registry cleaners by TuneUp and Registry First Aid
(Reg1aid). Both of these programs allow the changes to be undone -
typically you simply click at .REG files identified with a date and
time and the changes are reverted.

I eventually did so. In fact, the previous changes did not shorten the
registry too much anyway. My guess is that it was Reg1aid that was
behaving inappropriately. These registry cleaners can sometimes erase
registry entries that look useless - because they are "empty" - but
    they are actually essential.

The same comment applied to another program, HP image zone, that became
partially damaged after the registry cleaner procedures.

Back to the office updates. After I undid all the changes to the
registry made by Reg1aid, the updates could have been installed
successfully. Everyone who has been recently playing with registry
cleaners and can't install the updates is urged to undo the changes to
the registry made by the cleaner - most cleaners have tools to revert
    the changes.

    Good luck

  14. .... and I don't think the logs reveal the nature of the problem leading to
    the configuration failure.

Sorry, I think you are in for a remove and re-install of Office.

Was this PC ever exposed to any so-called Registry Cleaner?

I'm wondering if perhaps it's another of these 'order of install' problems,
that's beset a few apps? - notably WMP?

Hmm - something definitely happened today - I'm unable to uninstall the
other two Office Updates (914455 and 919031)
I removed the three XP updates, and the .Net one, and rebooted
Still couldn't uninstall the other Office Updates....
    ....and still couldn't install 917151 or 918419

    I had the same error messages. The Office source engine ( OSE) was disabled;
once I enable it i was able to intall the updates.

Search for setup.chm on your computer and follow the instructions to enable

For several days in a row, Automatic Updates would tell me I had an update
ready to be downloaded & installed: KB918419. Each time, it *seemed* to
download & install, but the next day, I was alerted to a new update--the same
    update.

I tried to update directly from the MSUpdate site, and it failed each time.
I downloaded the update, then ran the .exe, and it failed.

I tried "Detect and Repair," and it eventually told me: "Error 1406. Setup
cannot write the value Button Text to the registry key
    \SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
    Explorer\Extensions\{92780B25-18CC-41C8-B9BE-3C9C571A8263}."

That message made me check my Webroot Spy Sweeper logs... and that was it.
    Repeated blockage of BHO 92780B25-....

I logged onto the admin console for Webroot Spy Sweeper Enterprise, and
added {92780B25-18CC-41C8-B9BE-3C9C571A8263} to the BHO whitelist. After
polling my PC, I went to MS Updates, and KB918419 installed successfully.

  20. Yes. There have been many postings repeatedly identifying SpySweeper as a
culprit preventing correct operation of Windows Update. We frepeatedly
advise disabling anti-virus, anti-malware, etc , applications before
    attempting to run udpates.
