    The two most common methods..

    Edit the registry value at
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Microsoft Internet Mail Message\shell\open\command

    or

    Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/File Types/
    Scroll and select EML
    Click Advanced/Open/Edit
    - the command to edit is found in the field titled 'Application used to perform action'

  2. I suspect that you are running into a problem where you see a Restore
button rather than Advanced. If you click the Restore button it should
restore the EML file association to Outlook Express. Once you do that ,
you should then get the Advanced button which would allow you to
    manually fix the association.

Vista would not have a file association to Outlook Express. It would be to
Windows Mail unless Outlook happens to be installed.

According to the other thread, the OP is using Win XP (SP3), not
    Vista.

I have experimented with a procedure, which does seems to work
    with Win XP.

For further details, please see the other thread.
