I was getting the same error (code 78F) message when trying to install Office
2007 SP1. I bought my computer (laptop) already loaded with an Office 2007
student trial version. After the trial period ended, I bought the program.
So, I don't have the installation disc to try putting it in the proper drive
and running the update as suggested here. For that matter, I don't even have
the disk for my OS (Windows Vista Home Premium). I live in a third world
country (full-time missionary) and couldn’t just take it somewhere for tech
support. So, I tried putting my first recovery disk (one of two disks that
were created when the OS was installed) in the proper drive. I know it
sounds crazy but it worked. I was able to install the Office 2007 SP1
finally. I hope that this might also help someone else out there like me
that didn’t get their installation disks and can’t reinstall their Office
    software.
    God bless,

    Steven,

Thanks for posting - I'm having the same trouble and when I read your post
and others, I took out a blank CD and inserted it. I then tried to load SP1
again and came up code 91A. I took out that CD and inserted one with some
work/word docs on it and then tried to load. Success....My comp now wants to
restart to finish install...further than I've been after several
attempts...Thanks again! May God bless your witness...!

Hey, I had this same error and my computer tried to install this update every
day for the past two months and then finally it just installed successfully
and I did nothing differently. Strange. You guys really need some better
technical writers at Microsoft because none of the information I found was
helpful on this. If you want to recruit me, let me know.
