While downloading and installing Service Pack 2 for home xp, I received the
access denied message about half way through installation. I clicked the OK
button and sp2 uninstalled. What is the problem, and the fix?

I am experiencing the same problem (access denied) and attempted to locate
the info off the link below. The message now reads "the article you are
looking for is not available". Given that ... how do I fix my "access
    denied" problem - any suggestions?

Many people are having the same problem. Unfortunately, Microsoft's article
describing how to fix the problem did not work and in fact directed users to
an incorrect logfile that was to be used to diagnose the problem. Those
users who were directed to the correct logfile from outside sources and were
able to go into their registry and manually change key permissions, still
were not able to install SP2, or the installed version resulted in
malfunction of their computers and software. Perhaps Microsoft's removing of
the article (MKB 873148) is their first step in recognizing this bug and
doing something about it. My advice to you as a user would be not to install
SP2 on your computer until Microsoft works out all of the bugs or you will be
risking computer or software malfunction. IBM has also made that
    recommendation to their employees:

    Good Luck,
