activesync problems with symantic rtvscan

    I seem to have found a problem with activesync 3.8 (wcesmgr or wcescomm) and
    symantic's antivirus scanner rtvscan on XP. I could use some help to smooth
    things out..

    When logging in in the morning (usually after being logged out overnight or
    computer off) the activesync program cannot start and gives an error box
    where the only option is ok. This appears to be due to the antivirus
    rtvscan.exe, so my workaround has been to find rtvscan in
    taskmanager>processes and “end†it, which stops the nightly scan (even if it
    has already finished). Then logout and re-login. No problems if stay logged
    in overnight (and virus scan works fine) so I assume this is a problem with
    active sync starting up. Sounds like a problem with one of these progams
    (activesync or rtvscan) not getting along.

    I am required to keep the virusscan going by my work and I'd prefer not to
    turn off the virus scanner. Any advice or help would be appreciated. Thanks

    ActiveSync uses TCP/IP protocol to communicate and needs certain ports to be
    able to communicate with the device. It appears that your program is
    blocking the port at startup and therefore ActiveSync throws you the error.
    Could you share the error message you receive with "Ok" as the only option.

    Usually its the firewall that blocks the port. You might want to refer to
