I can sync my iPaq to my laptop fine through infrared, usb, and, home wlan.
When I try to connect to activesync through a bluetooth serial port
activesync gives me an error message:

I have done everything by the book. Twice, Thrice... No luck....

The com port on Activesync and on the Incoming BLuetooth serial port MATCH.
I have ran the bluetooth walkthrough to activesync via bluetooth on the iPAQ
    - Everything starts working, the com bluetooth connection is activated,
activesync on the pc and on the ppc start communicating
( the activesync green icon is twisting .. connecting )
    - after a couple seconds Activesync gives me this error message:

Microsoft Activesync Cannot recognize this device for one of the two
    * the device was not connected properly. To start over, disconnect
    the cable..........
    * the device is not a Smartphone or a Pocket PC. T o keep
Activesync from trying to connect to this or any other device, select hte
    check box below

    - I have tried using another dongle, same problem
    - I can use other bluetooth services without any problems

p.s: I really want to avoid using a bluetooth personal network.

Anyone knows any way to get support for activesync?

  3. Hi,
According to our friend MVP Mauricio Freitas from ...
    - Do you connect your USB dongle directly to your PC or to a USB hub? The
best option is directly to the PC
    - Do you have a firewall software like ZoneAlarm running? Try to deactivate
    - If you have an option for "energy control/management' on your USB ports,
    try to deactivate it

    Thx for the response
-The usb bluetooth device connects directly to the back of my notebook, no
    hub involved
-I have Norton Antivirius running, but that would have hindered any wifi
conectivity I had, I'll try disabling it
-I am waiting for an internal bluetooth device to be shipped ( the 3rd one
    i'd be trying )
-I see no Eneregy / Control Management on the USB port

I strongly disbelieve it's a bluetooth donge problem. I have tried two*
different dongles. I also regularly use a bluetooth mouse, never with any
problems ( I have disabled the mouse when I have tried syncing)

On that very bluetooth dongle I have logged more than 40 MB of Internet
traffic through my t610 cell phone, no problems whatsoever with it

Soon I will be receiving the internal bluetooth module for my laptop.
I'll see if it makes a difference
    Thx , Achille

    One more thing:
    - Disabling Norton DID NOT fix the problem
the problem was NOT fixed by a hard reset either

Let's hope the internal bt module fixes it...

Steven, I had checked that several times, even changed the port on both
devices to see if com4 had problems.

BUT I was finally able to fix the problem

Here is what I had to do: .... *** I disabled the password on the pocket pc

..... I'm confused why that worked. Prior to that I did a hard reset and the
    problem would keep appearing.
As of this very moment activesync is working, while I'm also using my bt
mouse and i'm online through a tmobile connection.

Thx to everyone who spent time trying to help me (steven&alberto) : Grazie
    tante, Alberto!

    I take that back
The connection worked for some mysterious reason... then five minutes later,
with the same settings the connection did NOT WORK .
